Yes I did see Casino Royale

Last Thursday.

I was very impressed with the opening credits. It is not that often you get to see creative - yet, not over-the-top (OTT) - animation like that. It provided a nice visual cue back to the sixties, though I don't know how or why. Images enter our subconscious and stay dormant until something harkens them back to the surface.

I must admit I've not been a Bond fan. Nor an anti-fan, but I can't remember which Bond movies I've seen, really. The Halle Berry one, I paid some attention to but can't remember much but planes. I guess I'm therefore now one of the new generation of Bond fans, seeing as the cycle is starting over with a new Bond.

Daniel Craig: Ow. Bond takes/Craig emotes pain. And he's likeable. Though I'm of a mind with M, too.

(I met a guy on the weekend, tall, handsome - too handsome - who said that he didn't ever get a celebrity comparison until just over a week ago: Daniel Craig. I've gotten Jodie Foster all my life… but I can remember the effect of my first celebrity comparison. It is flattering, to some. To the director on my latest project, who gets Kevin Spacey all the time, he finds it annoying.)

Mads Mikkelsen: really interesting-looking. And creepy. Also emotes pain. And is unlikeable. A good thing.

Eva Green: Looks best with makeup OFF. But I absolutely adored her gutsy bitchiness. I must admit Vesper's character is now a little bit of a role model for me.

The film is modern and fluid and most of the explosions take place in the first half an hour (except one notable one, orchestrated by LeChiffre!). It takes a while to weave the fibres of the plot together, so suspend your disbelief and don't take anyone to it who'll be muttering "What's happening now? I don't understand!" because they will interrupt the flow of the film for you. If you're the type of person to drop threads when you see a movie, then see this film for practice. The writers are clever. That's high praise.

Finally, Variety also posted the nominees, presumably for the Oscars, and I'm sure they mean for the foreign film part of the Oscars. Here is the link, and yes, Mads is up for Best Actor!

(note: so is Jesper Christensen, who played Mr. White in Casino Royale)

So, I see some stuff that fits in with my Scandinavian blog so I'm off to add them to my to-do list and execute them.

Happy reading!

Critics are saying Casino Royale is very good

And I won't go to the trouble of substantiating this true rumour because 1) I heard it through lots of people, 2) I heard it on the radio, and 3) you can go and see the movie anywhere in the world now.

So do it! I am going on Thursday night. I am looking forward to it.

In other news, Karen from Ireland wrote last week that Mads was on television a few times, once as a spectator for a serial charity dance competition (alright Mads! nice to see where your enthusiasm still lies!) and he was wearing light blue socks with a black outfit. I am crestfallen. Or, brightening, it's nice that a superstar of James Bond caliber is not so manicured as all that! The other time was on breakfast television show GMTV. You will have to dig around the site to find out more, and if you do find something, please let me know (link to me on homepage).

Karen wrote:
He was just speaking about the new film and the controversy over Daniel playing Bond and how he got really good at poker and how they managed to get him to cry blood from his bad eye. The presenter also asked him how he is going to handle the attention now he laughed it off (bless him) and said he was pretty famous in Denmark and hoped that someone might recognise him on the street in London.

Finally, tomorrow, Nov. 22, is Mads' birthday. Everyone wish him a happy one!

And so it begins…

I logged into MySpace today to see the Featured Profile (ain't that a duplication of words!) is Casino Royale. And the trailer they show is long - and good. You see loads of Daniel Craig, of course - and it looks like Bond is actually in love, this time, with Bond girl Eva Green - you see Judi Dench looking fabulous and as good as she always is - and Mads, I suspect, is even better.

I was never a Bond junkie, but this I've gotta see.
