Executives at ABC have bought the rights to make an American version of the hit police drama "Unit One (Rejseholdet)"
DR's popular police drama "Unit One (Rejseholdet)" will soon be hitting the US airwaves - but don't expect tars Mads Mikkelsen, Charlotte Fich and the rest of the Danish cast to reprise their roles on the hit TV series.
Major network ABC and Touchstone Pictures, both owned by the Disney Corporation, have bought the manuscript rights to "Unit One," and according to a DR press release, will produce an American version of the series. It is not yet known if the real-life Danish crime cases on which the original "Unit One" is based will be adapted for American TV audiences.
"Unit One" won an International Emmy award in 2002 as Best Drama Series. The new version of the Danish police drama will take over the time slot currently held by "NYPD Blue," which ABC has shown since 1993.
