This site is called Mads Fan. Or at least that's what I call it.

  • The first English-language fan site dedicated to

    Mads Mikkelsen

A primer on how to pronounce Mads' name: Mess Me-kulsin.

Mads Mikkelsen was first introduced to North American and other Hollywood audiences with his role of Tristan in King Arthur. His character was by far the scraggliest of the knights, yet he played the part with a quiet, aloof intensity that was compelling (the kind that compels you to turn a blind eye to questionable hygiene). So, compelling being a close relative of the word compulsion, I looked up Mads on the Internet to see what he's been up to until King Arthur, and I found not so much - only sites in Scandinavia and in Japan. So I started this site.

There are quite a few other sites now in English about Mads, especially since he was cast in the upcoming Bond movie, Casino Royale. For all of these sites, Casino Royale, and other Mads movies, go to the new Links section.

At IMDB, you can see that Mads Dittman Mikkelsen was born in the neighbourhood of Østerbro (translation: Eastborough) in Copenhagen, Denmark. This happened on November 22, 1965, which makes him a Scorpio (check the FAQ link above if you want to see what the Planetary Ephemeris says). His chinese zodiac sign would be Snake.

He still lives and works in Denmark, where he has a family. His wife, Hanne Jacobsen, is a choreographer, and they have two children, Viola and Carl.

Mads was a dancer for eight years before becoming an actor. He went to Århus Theatre School, graduating in 1996. The same year, at age 31, his first movie, Pusher, was released. For the record, I think it's cool that he was allowed by his school to work at the same time, because at my local theatre school, you can't – or else I might have attended. And it's cool that you can still pick up your socks and do something while approaching, or over, 30. Everybody assumes that you can't, some people try really hard to persuade you of that, and then someone comes along to prove them wrong. But then again, the leap from dance to acting is not as great as from the corporate grind. And all things take time.

In addition to his films (some of which are reviewed on this site), he was a regular character on the TV drama Rejseholdet (Unit One), which won an International Emmy award in November 2002. Taken from the iEmmys website, the show's synopsis is the following:

… Unit One is based on a series of crimes that have been committed in Denmark over the last ten years that have been researched by the show's writers. Following the personal lives of five detectives, the series delves deeply into the Danish system of justice and reveals what goes on in areas of investigation inaccessible to the general public.

If you want to see Mads' representation company and his cv, click over to Art Management ApS. Go back up to their homepage, and you'll see he's the poster boy at least some of the time (the homepage image rotates through their roster of talent).

We finally have some interview transcripts. I would have a lot of trouble translating any others from Danish, but anyone might help me, and I'll learn some more dansk.

Feel free to send in your own review of Mads' movies, and if you comment on my movie reviews, I will publish it.

There are some pics. For more, go to the Links section, where there's a listing of websites of several dedicated fans, who track down images and news items on a regular basis.

In the soon-to-be-two years that this site has been up and running, we've received no communication from the man himself. Nor agents, publicists, mum, dad, siblings, or even lawyers. Welcome but certainly not expected.

Will this site do anyone any good? Yes, with the mighty Thor on my side! Maybe appealing to Thor hurts my cause, but it amuses me when I think of him on the GTA Vice City V-Rock soundtrack.
